NORTHWEST NOMAD ASSOCIATION, INC. CELEBRATES 37 YEARS

One Sunday in April of 1969, a few Nomad owners got together at Lindy's in Salem, Oregon and formed a club. Officers were elected by voice vote and regular meetings were established. Our first President was Ray Walker. By January of 1970 we had our Constitution and By-Laws drawn up along with club cards and by June of 1970 our club was incorporated with the State of Oregon as a Non-Profit Organization.

The general purpose of the Association is to encourage ownership, preservation, operation and enjoyment of the 1955-56-57 Chevrolet Nomads along with providing and regulating events, tours and exhibitions for Nomads and their owners and always to encourage careful and skillful driving on public highways.

Our club has come a long way since it’s beginning, as we have members in Oregon and Washington and we now have around 50 members (families).

New officers were elected as of January 1st, 2006 and are as follows: President - Bob Miller; Vice President – Jann Fraser; Secretary - Marlene Miller, Treasurer - Phyllis Anderson, Sgt. at Arms – Lynn Halvorson; Historian – Jack Cimino.

Our dues are $12.00 a year and are due APril 1st of each year. This entitles you to a monthly newsletter with uPcoming event information & 5 club cards.

For 9 years our club hosted a Nomad only campout - Friday, Saturday & Sunday - at Lake Shafting, California; however, we discontinued this event due to declining attendance. One year, however, we had around 80 Nomads.

We set up the "Nationals" at the Inn of the 7th Mountain in Bend, July 8-11, 1991 for the Chevrolet Nomad Association. The event turned out very well as we had around 363 people and 90 Nomads from all over the USA and Canada. We put on the Poker run and other events. We also helped with the Poker run and other activities at the convention in Spokane, Washington - July 10-13, 2000.

Our club also helps put on the Canby Swap Meet with the Fords of the 50's car club and Rose City Street Rods. This event will be held October 1, 2006 at the Clackamas County Fair Grounds in Canby, Oregon. This will be our 31st year.

We plan other activities during the year for our club members such as picnics, tours with other clubs, camping outings, etc. At Christmas we give money around $2,000 each year to needy families and other organizations.

We are now temporarily meeting at Round Table Pizza, SE 122nd Ave., Portland the lst Friday of each month and meetings start at 7:30PM. Call before going as some months we have other activities instead of a meeting. Our newsletter has information regarding meetings each month

There is the Chevrolet Nomad Association also which is a club with members all over the USA and their dues are $30.00 a year. Their annual convention will be in Sedona, Az- July 9-13, 2006. A lot of our members attend each year.

A little technical information regarding our Nomads is as follows: There were 8531 Nomads made in 1955, 8103 in 1956 and 6264 in 1957. There were fewer 1957's made; however, the 1955 seems to be more popular because of its unique wheel openings. It is also a matter of personal preference.

For more information regarding our club, you can contact our President Bob Miller at 503-622-6813 or 503-702-6794 or our club secretary, Marlene Miller at P.O. Box 251, Boring, Or. 97009

WE ARE GLAD TO BE A MEMBER CLUB OF THE MULTNOMAH HOT ROD COUNCIL.
