Founded in 1954 by Dee Wescott, community members and elected officials, The Multnomah Hot Rod Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Portland Oregon, consisting of 16 car clubs in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. Functions of MHRC include: Helping coordinate the automotive show scene in the Portland metropolitan area and production of the "Portland Roadster Show", one of the oldest and best roadster shows in the country.
Through our fund raising efforts, we provide automotive based scholarships to many of the local community college and vocational programs. Our annual Angels on Wheels Toy Run to Randall Children's Hospital, provides thousands of toys for the children that are in for care, and their siblings.
At the Portland Roadster Show, we have two amazing charity events. First is our Wagon Angels event for the Children's Cancer Association. Throughout the year, local automotive shops, and high school and community automotive programs, paint and customize pull wagons that will be used to move children around local area hospitals while they are in for treatment. The wagons provide a welcome relief from wheel chairs and hospital beds. On Sunday; children in the fight of their life with cancer, are brought to our show, and pick out the wagon that is just right for them. They are then personalized for each child by our pinstripers who are participating in the Brush Bash event. There's not a dry eye in the house, as we watch these kids pick out "their" wagon, and forget their struggles for just a short period of time.
The other charity event at the PRS is the Pedal Car Auction. Pedal cars sponsored by MHRC clubs and members are customized by local shops and high school and community college automotive programs. They are auctioned off on Sunday prior to our awards ceremony, and the proceeds are divided equally among the participating schools. Just another way we can give back and help provide funding for the automotive programs.
Throughout the year, we also support a number of other worthy charities and events. We annually donate stuffed animals to the Ronald McDonald House with the help of Larry and Darlene Maynard. In the past few years, we have assisted high school automotive programs that have traveled to national competitions, and member clubs who have helped others in need. We recently donated funds to purchase supplies for the victims of the terrible fires in California. Thank you to MHRC member club the Impala's for bringing that need to us.
We can only do these great things through the support of our member clubs, their members, and all of the people that come to the Portland Roadster Show. Our show is one of the five largest in the country, and the only that is ran entirely by volunteers! Thanks to all!
